Join HAPBe Adventures on an epic journey to conquer the mighty Acatenango Volcano in Guatemala!

This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave you breathless and in awe of nature's forces. Don't miss this chance to test your limits and witness the awe-inspiring beauty of one of Guatemala's most iconic natural wonders!

Day 1: Arrival and Explore Antigua

Arrive in Antigua, Guatemala’s beautifully preserved colonial city. Take a walking tour of Antigua, visiting key historical sites such as the Parque Central, La Merced Church, and Santa Catalina Arch.

Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, taking in the charming atmosphere of Antigua.

Day 2:  Lake Atitlán & Boat Tour

Depart early for a day trip to Lake Atitlán, located about 2.5 hours from Antigua. Enjoy a boat ride across the lake, surrounded by majestic volcanoes and picturesque villages. Visit some of the charming villages around Lake Atitlán, such as Panajachel or San Juan, to experience local culture and art.

Day 3: Hike Acatenango Volcano

Hop on a shuttle for the scenic hour-long drive to San José Calderas and enjoy a traditional Guatemalan breakfast.

As we take our time to hike the trail, we’ll experience four unique ecosystems, starting with vibrant agricultural fields where local farmers work their land. Next, we’ll wander through the lush cloud forest, surrounded by diverse plant and animal life that provides shade and comfort. After that, we’ll stop for a scenic lunch in the high-alpine area, where we can take in stunning views of six nearby volcanoes.

Finally, we’ll reach Acatenango Base Camp at 11,800 ft / 3,600m where shared cabins with window views of Fuego Volcano. We’ll enjoy a home cooked Guatemalan delicious meal, a glass of wine and relax around the campfire all while soaking in the beautiful night sky above.

Day 4: Summit Acatenango and Descent

After enjoying a very early morning coffee or tea, we’ll set off on a 45-minute hike to the summit of Acatenango. Although the climb will be steep, the stunning views of Fuego Volcano, the Antigua Valley, and the expansive Guatemalan highlands stretching all the way to Mexico are absolutely worth it. At the top, we’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama.

We’ll spend about an hour at the summit, depending on the weather and timing, before heading back to base camp for a tasty breakfast. Then, we’ll begin our three-hour descent down the volcano, arriving at San Jose Caleras to meet our transportation by mid-day. Then back Antigua by early afternoon, around 1:00 pm. Enjoy free time to explore Antigua on an ATV Sunset Tour or relax at the hotel and recoup from the hike.
